Congratulations To The Jr. NBA Philippines All-Stars 2018

Basketball fans celebrated at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Manila, Philippines, as Jr. NBA’s annual National Training Camp concluded last Sunday May 20, 2018.

The Jr. NBA Philippines 2018 presented by Alaska program, saw 75 boys and girls between 10-14 years of age, participating in advanced fundamental skills training and exhibition games over the past three days. With the finalists having been selected from the top performers across the country at various Regional Selection Camps held earlier in the year from February – April.

The three-day camp culminated at SM Mall of Asia, where participants and basketball fans alike could partake in various exciting activities, including the ability to match prowess on NBA 2K18 and EA NBA Mobile games, as well as opportunities to meet and greet with NBA and WNBA players - while on the court the Top 20 boys and Top 20 girls were being put through their final paces.

The National Training Camp concluded when coaches who had closely observed the participants throughout the past three days – with the help of special guest, NBA star, Willie Cauley-Stein from the Sacramento Kings and former WNBA player, three-time WNBA MVP winner and Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes – deliberating and ultimately selecting eight boys and eight girls to progress to the next Jr. NBA All-Stars stage.

The chosen Jr. NBA All-Stars showcased skills on the court and exemplified the Jr. NBA core S.T.A.R. Values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, a positive Attitude, and Respect. Pauline Angelique Valle and Prince Ray Alao were named this year’s Jr. NBA Most Valuable Players while Marielle Vingno and Ethan Rod Alian were selected as Alaska Ambassadors.  Hazel Yambot of Baguio and Mark “Tata” Belangel of Bacolod were chosen as the Coaches of the Year.  In addition, special awards were handed out to Kayla Marie Mataga and Javier Louis Jugo as Gatorade Hustle awardees, Merylle Cuasay and Czarlo Salvador as Panasonic Rising Stars, and Aishe Solis and Kim Aaron Tamayo, Cloudfone Awesome Players of the Game.

These Jr. NBA Philippines All-Stars will now embark on an overseas NBA experience trip with fellow Jr. NBA All-Stars from across Southeast Asia later in the year.
